Which is bigger in Canada: Tim Horton's or Starbucks?

There's a new war in town: the coffee war. On one side there is the Canadian icon, which is known worldwide for it's coffee and doughnuts, Tim Horton's. On the other side it is America's globally known Starbucks, which is also the largest coffeehouse company in the world. Both generally sell the same products but, for different classes and crowds. Which is more popular in Canada?

Starbucks is an american coffee company and was founded in 1971 in Seattle. It has become very popular and big with over 17, 000 locations around the world. Starbucks has fancier drinks and is more well-known but, it can be inconvenient and some of their products are much more expensive than Tim Horton's. Starbucks may not have as many stores as Tim Horton's does in Canada; however, the demand for Starbucks drinks is probably higher. They definitely have lines leading outside of buildings and people keep going back for more. This company has more complicated orders and creations (ie: a low-fat cappuccino with no sugar and soy milk or a Caramel Ribbon Crunch Frappuccino with wiped cream). If you enjoy your coffee a little higher-end and you prefer specialty drinks, come here.

In Canada, you are never too far from a Tim Horton's. Tim Horton's is entirely Canadian and was founded in 1964 in Hamiliton by Tim Horton. Tim Horton was a professional Canadian defensive hockey player, which appeals to Canadians more because hockey has become the unofficial official sport of Canada. It has expanded to the USA too. To Canadians, Tim Horton's is considered a home for the whole nation. It's faster and has a more reasonable price than Starbucks and business workers as well as families and students can comfortably eat here. Tim's, Timmy's or Tim Horton's has become a household name as well as the very familiar term "double double". If you like your coffee simple and fast, come here.

In my opinion, I think that Tim Horton's is bigger in Canada than Starbucks but, Starbucks is coming and expanding in Canada as Tim Horton's is doing in the States. There are about triple the amount of Tim Horton stores as there are Starbucks shops in Canada. Tim Horton's has put their stores in Eastern Canada and along the highways while Starbucks has kept to the inner city. When cars pass through Canadian cities and towns, they usually stop for a good old couple of Timmy's. Because of this, they have a bigger revenue than Starbucks. Tim Horton's is more about saving time and quickly getting what you ordered while Starbucks is more about enjoying the atmosphere and sitting down for a sip.
I drink Tim Horton's and buy their products more than I do with Starbucks because as already mentioned, Starbucks is more expensive. Some people only buy Starbucks because it's easily recognizable by others, like a famous clothing brand. I am usually busy so Tim Horton's is a quick coffee shop that I can go in and out of. Again, it depends on personal preference.

The Cola Wars

What are America's two favorite soft drinks? Most people will answer with Coke and Pepsi. Since the beginning of time (or since the 1980's), Coke and Pepsi have always been rivals. Their rivalry has become so famous that people have created a name for it: The Cola Wars. The Cola Wars have become legendary over the past century and even though no one has declared a winner yet, one company is always ahead of the other.

Coca-Cola is a carbonated soft drink manufactured by the Coca-Cola Company and created by John S. Pemberton in 1886. This company has been seen as "family-friendly" and traditional, while using cute mascots such as Santa Claus and polar bears (to draw attention to global warming). Coca-Cola has multiple commercials and employs 6,300 people alone in Canada. They use cans and bottles and as of 2013, Coke can be found in over 200 countries and 1.8 billion of their products are consumed each day. It is considered one of the longest lasting brands and considered among the most successful companies ever. To one up Pepsi, Coke created Coke Rewards, where you receive points when you buy a product and can win prizes.

Pepsi is a carbonated soft drink that is manufactured by PepsiCo and created in 1893. It was originally called Brad's Drink, then Pepsi-Cola and finally became Pepsi. Pepsi is advertising the ideal lifestyle, one with parties and fun everywhere. They created the Pepsi Taste Challenge, where they would have the public taste two different samples and decide which they like more. This advertisement almost made them win the Cola Wars. Then they proceeded to create Drink Pepsi, Get Stuff. The public could collect Pepsi Points from packages and cups and then redeem the points for free merchandise.

The Cola Wars started in the 1980's. This soft drink war was created because Coca-Cola and Pepsi are so similar in taste and to find out which drink people like better. Both these companies have used very popular celebrities to promote their products, such as One Direction and Taylor Swift. In my opinion, the Cola Wars are very enjoyable to watch and to observe what certain companies are willing to do to generate business. I also think that Coke and Pepsi are losing customers because since some part of their company is focused on the Cola Wars, they don't notice the up and coming other drinks that could take their business away. Red Bull is an energy drink created in 1987 and has become very successful with 5.4 billion cans sold in 2013 alone; it's a threat for Coke and Pepsi besides each other. The Cola Wars have become so intense that this matter has been brought into outer space and some fights over social media. Some people say that Coke won, others say Pepsi. I personally prefer Coke to Pepsi. However, it matters which you like more; it's all based on personal preference. So begin your life with Coke or have a taste of the best drink created worldwide with Pepsi.
